This issue has also been observed occurring on a local computer as well as via an RDP session.
Solution
There are two potential solutions to this problem. The first is the easiest to implement.
Solution #1 - Update GPU Drivers
- Update Nvidia GPU drivers directly on the machine Ansys is installed on, directly from Nvidia website to ensure you have the latest version.
Download The Official NVIDIA Drivers | NVIDIA
Note: To identify what GPU you have, open the Nvidia Control panel and click System Information in the lower left.
Solution #2 - Environmental Variable
Set the following system environment variable on the computer you are remoting into. This solution doesn't work in all situations.
QT_OPENGL=desktop
Solution #3 - Utilize nVIDIA's OpenGL RDP
Obtain and run "nvidiaopenglrdp.exe" application provided by Nvidia on the computer you are remoting into. You will still use the same Windows RDP client, but this utilize enables OpenGL support over RDP which can improve performance and in this case, solves a problem. You must register in order to download this application.
- Download the application from - https://developer.nvidia.com/nvidia-opengl-rdp
